At Phoenix Rising, it is important that we all feel respected and are given equal opportunities. We celebrate diversity and abilities to build a happy and inclusive environment where everyone can work together and feel safe.
It is important that we all do our part! This is why we have social ground rules to respect each other and protect all Group Members.
This means no swearing, shouting, bullying, teasing, inappropriate behaviour or being unkind to other group members or staff. We respect ourselves, each other, and the session by behaving appropriately and professionally.
Respect things and your belongings. This means being responsible for your belongings. Please store bags away on coat hooks, not the floor, to avoid trip hazards.
Please respect other people’s belongings. This means we do not take or touch other people’s things without permission.
This means listening to everybody in sessions and at break times. Give each other enough time to talk and show we are listening.
Give each other personal space. We all like space around us to be ourselves and to express ourselves. If you are unsure if you are too close, ask. An example of this is keeping appropriate space between chairs.
Kissing and intimate affection is for private time, not in Phoenix Session time. We maintain a professional environment at Phoenix.
Sometimes we greet each other with a thumb up, high five or handshake at Phoenix. However not everyone likes to be touched. Some people may prefer to just say hello. Don’t touch someone without permission. If in doubt, ask.
Phoenix group members and staff have the right to contribute and be heard. Communication should include listening, turn taking and respecting each other. This includes non-verbal communication.
We do not use our mobile phones during Phoenix Rising sessions unless we have permission from a staff member under certain circumstances.
Mobile phones can be used at break or lunch if required but please use headphones if this will be noisy.
Staff contact details are private. Please do not request to have staff phone numbers as this is a Phoenix Policy. Staff have been asked NOT to give out their numbers. Staff cannot be involved in interaction with any Group Member via a personal social media account. We welcome you to ‘like’ our Phoenix page and interact positively with what we share.
Some sessions use the internet as part of planned activities. It is important that we don’t use Phoenix devices for anything other than the planned activities. We want to keep everyone safe.
Social media is a personal choice. We encourage you to STAY SAFE, RESPECT each other and not to give out or share personal details of yours or others, without permission.
Phoenix Rising is a day service. Social media by group members is outside of the scope of Phoenix Rising. We advise you to discuss online safety with your parents or carers.
Each session may have specific rules for the activity or venue such as wearing appropriate footwear in performing arts. It is important that you always listen and follow any instruction given by a staff member, especially session leads who are responsible for your safety.
As a team:
• Promote a calm and friendly environment
• Expect polite and respectful behaviour
• Be considerate of others
• We are mindful of the sensory needs of others
• We share chairs and equipment
We want Phoenix to remain a place where everyone feels comfortable and safe. If you have a safeguarding concern, talk to a member of staff or a parent and we will do our best to help the situation. Please see our safeguarding statement for more information.
